When one thinks of famous diamonds, the first diamond come to mind is undoubtedly the Kohinoor. Once upon a time this famous diamond Kohinoor was the pride of India.

This diamond was found by a farmer one fine morning on the river bank of the Godawari river in Golkonda after a rainy night. From this farmer, this diamond was passed to king of Golkonda, then to the emperor of Delhi, from where it went to Nadirshah of Persia. After this, the diamond was returned to king Ranjitsingh of Delhi, after which it was taken to England and encrusted in the crown of the queen of England, where it still lies.

When first time Emperor Nadirshah of Persia has seen this beautiful diamond at that time he exclaimed "Koh-i-noor". The meaning of this small word is "Mountain of Light". From that time onwards this Golkonda diamond has been known by the name "Kohinoor".
